Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 16, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how JCDL 2004 ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you visit jcdl2004.org. We have written this document in plain English because the JCDL community has, since 2004, argued that honest communication about information systems is itself a civic practice.

What we collect

When you visit this site, our hosting and content-delivery providers may automatically receive standard technical information including your IP address, browser type and version, referring page, and the URLs you request. This information is used to operate the site, detect abuse, and produce aggregate usage statistics. We do not build individual behavioral profiles from this data.

When you voluntarily fill out the registration form on this site, we collect the information you provide: your name, email address, institutional affiliation, chosen tier, and any free-text responses. This information is used only to process your registration and communicate with you about the conference.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell personal information to third parties.
  • We do not use advertising trackers or third-party advertising cookies.
  • We do not share registration details with sponsors or exhibitors without explicit opt-in consent.

Cookies

This site uses only strictly necessary cookies required for the site to function. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies. If this changes, this page will be updated and you will be offered a clear opt-in.

Third-party services

We embed web fonts from Google Fonts, which may receive your IP address when the page loads. We host the site on a standard cloud provider; traffic is routed through a CDN for performance. Our conference content is fetched at build time from an internal content API and is not called from your browser.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal information we hold about you. Email [email protected] and we will respond within thirty days.

Retention

Registration data is retained for the duration of the conference cycle and for twelve months afterwards for the purpose of issuing attendance certificates and program-committee follow-up. After that period the data is either anonymized or deleted.

Children's privacy

This site is intended for a professional audience and is not directed at children under thirteen. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the homepage and communicated to registered attendees by email.
